When Matt was wanted his bday dinner at a local pizza joint I didn’t ask any questions. Truthfully, decades old Queens pizza is sounds ideal with no further information. But Andrew Bellucci’s is way more interesting than that. Once inside I remembered reading articles about this place and its owner who had quite the history. Do your ears perk up when you hear the words “jail time!” Because mine do.

Gossip aside, Matt raved about the pizza with its extra thin, almost Connecticut-style crust. They’re known for their clam pizza. It was my first time trying it and I enjoyed the mounds of garlic and lemon wedges – felt like I was at the seaside. I think my favorite, though, was just the plain margherita. Sometimes simple is best, especially when you’re working with high quality sauce and they get the char on the crust juuuuust right. Oh and the Caesar salad was great too.
We pushed tables together and kinda took over the place, but it feels like a primarily takeout operation. The food, however, is not something to be dismissed as grab and go – it’s savor-able.
